Early Childhood Education Coaching
Coaching is increasingly emerging as an evidence-based method for professional development in early childhood education. We appreciate that coaching can have a significant impact on quality by supporting directors and teachers in applying their knowledge to their everyday practice.
Resources & Upcoming Events
Representatives from various early childhood education coaching initiatives convene as the Colorado Coaching Consortium. The Consortium collaboratively developed Coaching Competencies because members believe a common set of standards for coaching is a foundational step toward creating more systematic professional development opportunities for coaches.
The competencies include:
- Setting the Foundation
- Co-Creating the Relationship
- Communicating Effectively
- Facilitating Learning and Results
- Assessing Success of the Coaching Partnership
Visit the Consortium’s website to view the competencies and learn more.
Critical Components of Coaching. This face-to-face training introduces skills and strategies for coaching early childhood professionals in quality improvement goal setting and implementation of action plans. Participants engage in activities that reinforce and provide practice for the delivered material. The training can be customized as a 3-, 6- or 12-hour format.
Coaching and Resistance: Let’s Change the Window. This 1.5 hour face-to-face training explores resistance and its challenge for coaches as they work with teachers and directors on quality improvement. The training asks the participants to shift their views of resistance.

Our STEAM Quality Symposium is a highly successful model that offers comprehensive, hands-on training to early childhood education directors, teachers, and coaches. Each full-day training includes presentations by leaders in the field, followed by an afternoon facilitated by coaches who enable participants to test out new curriculum ideas. The key to the success of these Symposia is the partnerships we have with organizations including museums and libraries that have a wealth of knowledge and a valuable perspective to share with early childhood professionals.
This super resource Ramps and Rollers Teacher Packet was distributed at our recent Symposium with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science supporting coaches in understanding, and developing strategies for science inquiry in the preschool classroom. Ramps and Rollers is science that a teacher can do every day using materials already found in the classroom.
