School Age Rating

Assess the quality of your school age program

The School Age Qualistar Rating measures the quality of out-of-school time programs, including before and after school care as well as summer camps. Nationally recognized school age tools are used to assess the quality of the learning environment. Components of quality that are measured include family partnerships, teacher qualifications, and adult-to-student ratios. An important component of the process includes use of the School Age Care Environment Rating Scale-Updated® tool, commonly referred to as SACERS, or the Classroom Assessment Scoring System K-3®, commonly referred to as CLASS-K3. We use our observation in combination with document review and an interview with your center’s leadership to learn as much as possible about your program’s services to families and children. Our School Age Rating was developed based on our years of experience with the nationally recognized and validated Qualistar Rating™ for early childhood programs.

Participants in the School Age Rating quality improvement process receive:

  • An on-site observation that includes an interview with the leader
  • A follow-up consultation to discuss results
  • A quality improvement plan based on assessment results
  • The opportunity to promote your program as quality-rated, similar to how early childhood education programs promote their Colorado Shines ratings
