Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale® (ECERS-R®)
Prepare to be successful in Colorado Shines
The Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale®, commonly called ECERS, is part of a larger toolkit of Environment Rating Scales® (ERS®) that are all observation-based tools that measure the quality of early childhood education environments. The scales examine a wide variety of factors that all contribute to children’s development and ERS® assessments can support you in identifying areas to target for quality improvement. An ERS assessment can prepare you for the Environment Rating Scale component of the Colorado Shines Quality Rating. Our expert team of assessors are certified on these nationally recognized, valid, and reliable scales.
There are four rating scales, each designed for a different setting of the early childhood education field.
ECERS-R: The Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale-Revised is designed for children ages three- to five-years
ITERS-R: The Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale-Revised is designed for children younger than three-years
FCCERS-R: The Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale-Revised is designed for all ages of children
SACERS-Updated: The School-Age Care Environment Rating Scale is designed for children enrolled in school
